Who We Are

Seshen Kamau, M.Ed, NBC-HWC
Founder & Executive Director
Welcome to Sawubona Sisterhood Inc., where our mission is to empower and support Black women on their pregnancy and postpartum journeys. My name is Seshen Kamau and I am the visionary behind our organization and a National Board Certified Health Coach specializing in Prenatal and Postpartum health coaching.
With a deep passion for maternal health, I am not only a certified Health Coach but also a dedicated Certified Prenatal Yoga Instructor and a Certified Maternal Mental Health Peer Specialist. My extensive expertise allows me to holistically address the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of Black women during the transformative phases of pregnancy and postpartum.
Driven by a commitment to inclusivity and cultural sensitivity, I founded Sawubona Sisterhood Inc. to create a supportive community tailored to the unique needs of Black mothers. "Sawubona" means "I see you" in Zulu, reflecting my belief in the importance of acknowledging and honoring each woman's individual experience.
Through my leadership, Sawubona Sisterhood Inc. strives to break down barriers, challenge disparities, and ensure that every Black woman receives the personalized care and support she deserves. Join us in embracing the journey to motherhood with myself and the dedicated Sawubona Sisterhood team.
Britney Allen, RN, IBCLC
International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant
My name is Britney Allen. I am a Registered Nurse and International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant. My passion is helping mothers to nourish themselves as they nourish their babies. Having the opportunity to work with melanated mothers is especially important to me because breastfeeding has physical and spiritual benefits for mom and baby. Statistically, in the US, the rates of breastfeeding in the black community are lower than other ethnicities. There are many factors that have led to this, but I use prenatal education and postpartum support, to open up more opportunities for mothers to return to the sacred practice of breastfeeding, which is our birthright.
